Plans and procedures for recovery of persons from the water (Related to SOLAS III)

Please be informed that amendment of SOLAS III/17-1 was adopted at IMO MSC 91 on Nov. 2011 and "Plans and procedures for recovery of persons from the water" should be provided for all ships engaged in international voyage as noted in ClassNK Technical Information No. TEC-0965 dated 30 September 2013.
Please be informed of the contents of the "Plans and procedures for recovery of persons from the water" as follows.

1. Application of ships
All ships engaged in international voyage (all passenger ships other than ro-ro passenger ships and cargo ships of not less than 500 tons).
(Ro-ro passenger ships are already required to carry means of recovery equipment by SOLAS regulation III/26.4, and so are deemed to have complied with the regulation III/17-1 requirements.)

2. Contents of "Plans and procedures for recovery of persons from the water"
In order to facilitate the preparation of these plans and procedures, ClassNK, in cooperation with the industry, developed a sample format.

3. Inspection of confirmation
Surveyor will confirm that "Plans and procedures for recovery of persons from the water", specified in 2. above, is provided on board at the following occasion.
(1) New ships constructed (keel-laid) on or after 1 July 2014:
Classification survey at new building stage
(2) Existing ships constructed (keel-laid) before 1 July 2014:
By the first periodical or renewal safety equipment survey of the ship, whichever comes first after 1 July 2014
