The approval test of crankcase explosion relief valves (Replacement of ClassNK Technical Information No. TEC-0720)
With regard to the subject matter, please note that the previous ClassNK Technical Information No. TEC-0720 is replaced by this issue for correction of the effective date and the handling of Chapter 10, Part 6 of "Guidance for the Approval and Type Approval of Materials and Equipment for Marine Use" (hereinafter referred to as "the Guidance").
As you know, Chapter 10, Part 6 of the Guidance, which specifies the requirements of the approval test for the crankcase explosion relief valves of diesel engines, was originally established on 1 November 2005 adopting IACS UR M66.
Regarding this Chapter 10, Part 6 of the Guidance, so far, the effective date has been postponed according to the amendments of UR M66. In this connection, as IACS recently postponed the effective date of UR M66 once again, ClassNK has also adopted the amendment of UR M66 and partly revised the effective date and the handling of Chapter 10, Part 6 of the Guidance as shown below.
Following explosion relief valves are subject to Chapter 10, Part 6 of the Guidance and the approval tests are required.
1. Explosion relief valves of diesel engines whose date of application for certification is on or after 1 July 2008 and that are installed on ships for which the date of contract for construction is before 1 July 2008.
2. Explosion relief valves of diesel engines installed on ships for which the date of contract for construction is on or after 1 July 2008.
"Diesel engines whose date of application for certification is on or after 1 July 2008" in 1. above refers to diesel engines
1. installed on ships whose application for Classification Survey during Construction is submitted to the Society on or after the date, and
2. specified in the application for Classification Survey during Constructions including the information of the diesel engines i.e. the manufacturer, the model, number, rated output and rated engine speed.
