As informed previously by ClassNK Technical Information No. TEC-0545 and No. TEC-0683, the existing ships defined by the annex, whose date of building contract is before 27 September 2003, should obtain the International Sewage Pollution Prevention (ISPP) certificate by 26 September 2008.

You are kindly requested to take into account the obtaining of the certificate by the effective date.

It is required to complete the plan approval at ClassNK Machinery Department, and then undergo the initial survey at service sites in order to obtain the certificate.

1. Plan approval at ClassNK Machinery Department
3 sets of the following documents are necessary to be submitted to ClassNK Machinery Department for approval.
(As for procedures to issue the certificate when the ship has a Statement of Compliance (SOC), please refer to paragraph 5. in TEC-0545.)

(1) A copy of type approval certificate issued by the Administration for sewage treatment plants, or plans and calculation sheets* for sewage holding tanks
(2) Sewage piping diagrams (including sewage piping diagrams in all places such as accommodation spaces and engine room)

(*)The calculation sheets for sewage holding tanks are the ones which show the capacity of the tanks complies with the following formula.
Cr ≥ A Np Da

Cr: the total capacity of the sewage holding tanks (m3)
A: 0.06 (m3/person/day) Value of A may be reduced according to the flushing system etc.
Np: the total number of persons on board
Da: the maximum number of days operating in areas where the discharge of sewage which is not comminuted or disinfected into the sea is prohibited (minimum 1 day)
