The Panama Maritime Authority has issued a notice regarding the language for Freeboard Marks (Notice Ref. No.MDG05/08/72 dated 12 December 2005).

At present, the Marking of Freeboard Marks for Panamanian Flag Ships may be marked in English or Spanish. However, the Administration has demanded that the subject markings are to be made only in English in the future, as per the attached Notification from the Panama Maritime Authority. Therefore, regarding those ships marked in Spanish at present, it is required that the subject marking should be changed to English by the next docking survey. Also, please be kindly informed that it is necessary to arrange an occasional survey for verification of the subject marking.
