Fire fighting equipments onboard the Hong Kong flagged vessels
The Hong Kong Government has noticed ClassNK of the special requirements for EEBDs and Smoke Helmet ? Type Breathing Apparatus onboard the Hong Kong flagged vessels as attachments, and then the latest requirements are as follows:
1. Emergency escape breathing device (EEBD)
(1) EEBDs should be provided in accommodation spaces as stated below.
(I) For cargo ships : 2 EEBDs and 1 set of spare.
(ii) For passenger ships carrying not more than 36 passenger : 2 EEBDs for each main vertical zone except those defined in the regulation SOLASⅡ-2/13.3.4.5, and a total of 2 EEBDs of spare.
(iii) For passenger ships carrying more than 36 passengers : 4 EEBDs for each main vertical zone except those defined in the regulation 1 SOLASⅡ-2/13.3.4.5, and a total of 2 EEBDs of spare.
(2) 2. EEBDs should be provided in machinery spaces for category A containing machinery used for main propulsion as stated below.
(I) Machinery spaces of category A containing machinery used for main propulsion :
(a) 1 EEBD in the engine control room, if located within the space.
(b) 1 EEBD in workshop areas, if there is, however, a direct access to an escape way from the workshop, an EEBD is not requirement.
(c) 1 EEBD on each deck or platform level near the escape ladder constituting the second means of escape from the machinery space (the other means being an enclosed escape trunk or water tight door at the lower level of the space).
(ii) In machinery spaces of category A other than those of (2).(I):
1 EEBD, as a minimum, on each deck or platform level near the escape ladder other than a fire shelter, an escape trunk or a watertight access door to safe spaces.
(3) Above requirements are required to be applied to all Hong Kong flagged vessels, and the vessels not complied are required to comply with the requirements not later than the date of first Safety Equipment Survey on or after 1 March 2004. The surveyor should confirm to comply with the requirements at the first survey on or after 1 March 2004 and report the results, in the survey record. In this case, please note that fire control plan is required to be corrected.
