Special requirements for emergency escape breathing device regarding Marshall Islands and Mauritius flagged vessels (related to SOLAS Chapter II-2 as amended in 2000)
The Marshall Islands Government and the Mauritius Government have noticed ClassNK of the special requirements for emergency escape breathing device on board the Marshall Islands and Mauritius flagged vessels as follows.
Marshall Islands
There should be, as a minimum, two EEBDs on each level (at each deck or platform level) of the machinery space. If a machinery space contains an enclosed primary escape trunk having a door at each level, only one EEBD need be located on each level.
Mauritius
1. If the ship has a sprit house, the minimum two EEBDs per house should be provided.
2. The number of EEBD in the machinery spaces should be as follows.
(1) Two sets in the control room.
(2) One set by each escape ladder.
(3) Notwithstanding the requirements specified in (1) and (2), a minimum of four sets should be provided.
3. Spare EEBD should be as follows.
(1) At least one spare EEBD set should be provided on board ships with ten or less EEBDs.
(2) Ships with eleven to twenty EEBD on board should carry at least two spare devices.
(3) Ships with more than twenty EEBDs on board should carry spare equal to at least 10% of the total EEBD but not more than four spares will be required.
4. At least one set of EEBD will be required for the purpose of crew training. The training devices should be stowed separate from the spare EEBD and properly marked "Training EEBD Set".
