As stated in ClassNK Technical Information No. 406, SOLAS as amended in 2000 is entering into force on 1 July 2002. In its chapter II-2 (fire protection, fire detection and fire extinction), there are a number of new and revised provisions to be interpreted. Regarding such provisions, following are shown in Attachment (1):
(1) ClassNK provisional interpretations,
(2) development of unified interpretations at IMO, and
(3) instructions on emergency escape breathing devices (EEBDs) which ClassNK received from the administrations of Bahamas, Cyprus, Isle of Man, Liberia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Singapore and Greece.

The whole texts of their instructions on EEBDs are reproduced in Attachment (2).
