With regard to MARPOL 73/78 new Annex VI which had been informed to shipowners and shipbuilders in NK Technical Information No.255 dated 1 May 1998, it is not clear when the Annex is coming into force. However, when the Annex enters into force in the future, each incinerator installed on board a ship on or after 1 January 2000 shall meet the requirements of the Annex retroactively, and also shall be approved by the Administration taking into account the IMO standard of Resolution MEPC76(40).
With regard to new building ships which are at stages of construction on or before 1999 and will be delivered on or after 1 January 2000, we would like to recommend you to request our branch office to confirm the date of installation of the incinerator in order to keep an official record document to avoid possible problems which may be experienced in the future. NK branch office will describe the installed date of incinerator on the Survey Record of the related ship, and additionally, the STATEMENT OF INSTALLATION would be issued at your request.
As to further information, regarding existing ships, each incinerator newly installed or replaced on or after 1 January 2000 shall also meet the requirements of the Annex after the Annex will enter into force.
