Marine equipment for onboard United Kingdom flagged ship

The Administration of United Kingdom (UK) has issued MSN 1874 (Amendment 6) concerning special requirements of marine equipment for onboard UK flagged ship. The outlines of the requirements are as follows.

Marine equipment listed in Annex 1 of the MSN newly placed onboard on or after 1 January 2023 is required to be approved by UK approved bodies except for the following cases.
(1) Equipment that is defined as a "spare" part can continue to be placed on board a UK flagged ship, this includes on or after 1 January 2023. (Regarding definition of the word "spare", please refer to paragraph 2.6 of the MSN.)
(2) MED approved marine equipment that has been manufactured before 1 January 2023 can continue to be placed on board UK flagged ship on or after 1 January 2023.

In addition, MED approved marine equipment already placed on board a UK flagged ship can remain on board for the duration of its operational life.

Furthermore, marine equipment listed in Annex 2 of the MSN, is required to be approved by UK nominated bodies in accordance with the requirements in the MSN.
