Steel coil loading program of existing dry cargo ships

Tec No.: TEC- 798 (18kb)

Contact:

Issued:7 Jan 2010

Loading methods, i.e. weight, size, tiers, and number of dunnages, for steel coils carried by dry cargo vessels have been verified with regards to the concentrated forces affecting inner bottoms and these loading methods have been summarized in the onboard loading manual. These summarized loading methods aim to keep the number of dunnages to a minimum and may not always correspond to maximum quantities for loaded steel coils.

However, steel coil loading methods that are not summarized in the onboard Loading Manual are also acceptable, provided that the number of dunnages is increased and they are verified properly with regard to inner bottom strength.

With regard to information given by ClassNK Technical Information No.TEC-0726 dated 25 March 2008, a calculation program to evaluate steel coil loading methods, which are not summarized in the onboard Loading Manual, is available from ClassNK's website.

Up to now, this calculation program could evaluate steel coil loading methods with less than 6 dunnages which are not included in the onboard Loading Manual. This time the program has been improved to evaluate steel coil loading methods with more than 6 dunnages per steel coil considering that the loads on panel of inner bottom are regarded as uniformly distributed loads.

The above improved program named "Primeship_Steelcoil_Loading_Ver1.10-E.xls" is available from ClassNK's website. English (http://www.classnk.or.jp/hp/en/download/dl_soft.aspx)
