ClassNK’s Approach to Cyber Security

ClassNK has compiled the “ClassNK Cyber Security Approach” as its basic policy on ship cyber security, taking into account trends among international organizations and maritime-related bodies.

ClassNK Cyber Security Approach

Traditional marine systems primarily relied on physical connections and controls, with relatively limited need to consider threats such as unauthorized access or attacks from external sources.

However, recent technological advances have enabled these systems to become digitally interconnected through computers and the Internet. As a result, marine systems are increasingly exposed to cyberspace, heightening the risk of cyber-attacks.

Cyber-attacks can compromise not only the safety and reliability of marine systems, but also the safety of life and property at sea and the protection of the marine environment. Accordingly, cyber security has attracted growing attention in recent years as a means of defending against such threats.

ClassNK actively disseminates information on ship cyber security and aims to contribute to the advancement of cyber security measures internationally.
