The SOLAS regulation V/19-1 Long Range Identification and Tracking of Ships (LRIT) is applied to ships on or after 1 January 2009. This Technical Information-2- is intended to provide updated information in respect to an implementation of LRIT shipborne equipment.

1. Application to ships under construction
(1) For a ship under construction, where the keel is laid before 31 December 2008 and certified for operations in sea areas A1 and A2, and sea areas A1, A2 and A3, but the ship is delivered on or after 1 January 2009, the first survey is a registration survey of a ship during construction or of a ship not built under ClassNK's survey. This ship needs to comply with the requirements for LRIT.
(2) For a ship under construction, where the keel is laid before 31 December 2008 and certified for operations in sea areas A1, A2, A3 and A4, but the ship is delivered on or after 1 January 2009, this ship needs to comply with the provisions (1) above whilst it is operated within sea areas A1, A2 and A3.
(3) For a ship above (2) certified for operations in sea areas A1, A2, A3 and A4, but the ship is delivered on or after 1 July 2009, the first survey is a registration survey of a ship during construction or of a ship not built under ClassNK's survey. This ship needs to comply with the requirements for LRIT usable in sea areas A1, A2, A3 and A4.
2. Conformance test
(1) All ships are required to be carried out the conformance test either by a recognized ASP or by an authorized testing ASP (Application Service Provider) in the first survey.
