As we have already informed in ClassNK Technical Information No. 404, IMO resolution on acceleration of phasing out scheme of existing single hull tankers, has been made on 1 September 2002. Category 1 oil tankers operating beyond 2005, and Category 2 oil tankers operating beyond 2010 have to comply with the requirements of CAS, accordingly. "Model survey plan", "guidance note for the safety conduct of CAS survey" and "CAS schedule adopted by MEPC.94 (46) and circulated as MEPC/Circ. 390. Please find herewith.

1. Model Survey Plan (Annex 1 to MEPC/Circ.390)
The attached CAS Survey Plan covers the minimum extent of overall surveys, close-up surveys, thickness measurements and pressure testing within the cargo area, ballast tanks, including fore and aft peak tanks.

2. Guidance Note for the safe conduct of CAS surveys (Annex 2 to MEPC/Circ.390)
The attached Guidance Note has been developed for the safe conduct of CAS Surveys. Although this Guidance Note makes explicit reference to the CAS survey and to attending surveyor it should be used also in connection with any thickness measurement in line with CAS requirements.

3. CAS Schedule (Annex 3 to MEPC/Circ.390)
This schedule shows the flow of CAS survey under Amendments to regulation 13G of MARPOL Annex I.

It is obliged to notify both flag Administration and R.O. for applying CAS at least 8 months prior to the commencement of CAS in accordance with the above mentioned "CAS Schedule".
