As informed by ClassNK Technical Information No. TEC-0978 and 1170, EU flagged existing ships and Non-EU flagged ships calling at a port or anchorage of an EU member state shall have on board an approved IHM by 31 December 2020.

For EU flagged ships, two hazardous materials (PFOS and HBCDD) are added to Hong Kong Convention and the checking of PFOS is additionally required to comply with the EU regulation for EU flagged existing ships while the checking of HBCDD is compulsory to EU flagged new ships only.

For EU flagged existing ships having an SOC issued by ClassNK, an application is to be submitted with the SOC to a ClassNK local office in order to check PFOS in the first class periodical survey. Prior to this survey, we will examine the necessary documents of which we will inform you separately considering each ship's circumstances.

For the purpose of awareness and for calling attention to our clients, ClassNK adds the below mentioned Note on Survey Status of ClassNK registered EU flagged ships until 31 December 2020.
"Note(Class): The ship is requested to retain on board the approved IHM by 31 December 2020"

The above Note will be deleted from ClassNK Survey Status on completion of the Approval of IHM, or after January 2021 regardless of completion of the Approval of IHM. Please contact us if you intend to delete the Note from Survey Status, due to the completion of Approval of IHM by an Administration or RO other than ClassNK.

IHM of Non-EU flagged ships having an SOC issued by ClassNK are in conformity with the EU Regulation since an investigation of PFOS is not required for those ships.
