1. General
The Administration of Germany has issued instructions regarding the application of MSC.1/Circ.1352/Rev.1 (CSS Code Annex 14) as the attached ISM-Circular No. 03/2011.
According to the instruction, CSS Code Annex14 is to be applied as a mandatory requirement to German flagged containerships as described below.

2. Application of the CSS Code, Annex 14
- Containerships with a date of keel laying (or which are at a similar stage of construction) on or after 1 January 2015 are subject to the provisions of Annex 14.
- Existing containerships with a date of keel laying prior to 1 January 2015 are subject to the provisions of sections 4.4, 7.1, 7.3, and 8 in Annex 14; and
- Existing containerships are subject to the provisions of sections 6 and 7.2 in Annex 14, as far as practical, with the understanding that existing ships would not be required to be enlarged or undergo other major structural modification as determined by the Administration.

3. Instructions from other flag Administrations regarding the application of the CSS Code, Annex 14 are available on the ClassNK website under the category of "Ship Type: Container" on the search page for ClassNK Technical Information.

Please be advised that new ClassNK Technical Information circulars will be issued upon receipt of instructions from flag states other than the above.
