IMO
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized international agency of the United Nations. The IMO’s primary purpose is to ensure cooperation between Administrations in relation to all kinds of technical instruments and conventions affecting international maritime trade, and to promote the safety of shipping, effective maritime operations, and the prevention of marine pollution by ships.
IACS
The International Association of Classification Societies, more commonly known as IACS, was established in 1968 by seven leading classification societies (ABS, BV, DNV, GL, LR, NK, RINA) in order to promote the improvement of standards for ensuring safety at sea and the prevention of pollution of the marine environment, enhance communication and cooperation with relevant international and national maritime organizations, and allow for increased cooperation with global maritime industry.
