Revised Performance Standards of EPIRB & VDR
Revised performance standard of EPIRB, IMO Resolution MSC471(101) was adopted on 14 June 2019.
The Revised performance standard is applied to the EPIRB installed on or after 1 July 2022.
IACS made UI SC295 for interpretation of “installed” on the performance standard, but it is not submitted to IMO.
Therefore, instructions of Flag States may be applied.

Since performance standard of EPIRB is referred in performance standard of VDR as requirements of float-free capsule, amendments to performance standard of VDR, IMO Resolution MSC494(104) was adopted on 7 October 2021.
The revised performance standard is applied to the VDR installed on or after 1 July 2022.
IACS made UI SC261(Rev.1) for interpretation of “installed” on the performance standard, but it is not submitted to IMO.
Therefore, instructions of Flag States may be applied.

Japanese flag vessels
Since there is no EPIRB & VDR complying with the revised performance standard approved by Japanese government (JG), EPIRB & VDR complying with each current performance standard (A.810(19) and MSC333(90)) approved by JG/HK is acceptable for Japanese flag vessel after 1 July 2022 until related Japanese regulations is amended.
When application date of the revised performance standard for Japanese flag vessels, we will up-date this information.
